Chelsea Manning

CHELSEA MANNING

Though I started this portrait during the trial, it was completed after Chelsea Manning’s trial was over. The day after the trial, Chelsea’s lead defense attorney, David Coombs, appeared on Good Morning America. David read a statement from Chelsea which stated that she wanted to be known from that day forward as a female named Chelsea rather than Bradley. After I saw that happen, I decided to finish this portrait in pastel, feminine tones.

Half of the proceeds will start a Chelsea Manning Scholarship Fund for low-income art students.
